Quaero was a European search engine project that was meant to compete with Google. It was announced in 2005 by Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schröder, the political leaders of France 🇫🇷 and Germany 🇩🇪 .

It was based on a public-private consortium of 32 Franco-German partners and made up of industrial groups, SMEs, laboratories and public institutions. It has mobilized more than 1,000 doctoral students, researchers, engineers and administrative staff.
